I recently came across an interesting article about independent researcher Giancarlo Lelli, who was awarded Project Eleven’s 1 BTC Q-Day Prize after successfully demonstrating a quantum attack on a 15-bit elliptic curve (ECC) key using publicly accessible quantum hardware.

Of course, this doesn’t mean Bitcoin or Ethereum are suddenly vulnerable today. The gap between a 15-bit demonstration and real-world 256-bit cryptography is still enormous.
However, what caught my attention wasn’t the key size.
It was the fact that the first successful step has already been taken.
Throughout the history of technology, breakthroughs rarely happen overnight.
They begin with small demonstrations.
Then come better hardware.
Better algorithms.
Better error correction.
Step by step, what once seemed impossible gradually becomes practical.
For me, that’s the real lesson here.
Instead of asking:
“Will quantum computers break today’s cryptography in 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years?”
I’d rather ask:
“Will our infrastructure be ready before that day arrives?”
Building new cryptographic standards isn’t something that happens overnight.
Migration across global blockchain networks could take years.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve been following @quipnetwork.
What interests me isn’t the fear of quantum computing.
It’s the idea of preparing for a transition before it becomes an emergency.
Whether quantum threats arrive sooner or later, early preparation has always been one of the strongest principles in cybersecurity.
Just my personal thoughts after following recent developments in quantum computing.
